Birthday/Christmas/Twitter

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 22, 2010, 2:14 PM
Oh man, you all really know how to make one feel at home on DA! Thank all you lovely Birthday wishers for your ...Birthday wishes!! :la: :woohoo: Really, thanks a lot! :)
I'm a bit late with my thankythank-journal but last month was a crazy busy for me. Hence my failing in replying in general!

And since I guess this will be my last (third?) Journal this year - You all have a fantastic brilliant Christmas!! :) :insertxmassmileyhere: and since I'm at it, a Happy New Year as well!! :D Keep creative and over all have fun! :)

And another little thing - I've recently started using Twitter more for little sketches and (hopefully) process stuff that I wouldn't post here or my blog otherwise. So come by if you can stand my ramblings.

------>Twitter twitter.com/ChristianNauck

Don't worry, DA is still my "gallery" but I will try to use twitter for the stuff in between.

Semi Update, Facebook etc.

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 11, 2010, 9:56 AM
Hey everyone,

not much to tell I guess. Nothing to discuss, only bits and pieces, so here we go:

>Have finished my two issues of MA Spider-Man some weeks ago, and did some covers for Marvel and Boom. Not sure what comes next.

>Besides my only occasionally used Twitter account twitter.com/ChristianNauck I'm also at Facebook -> www.facebook.com/christian.nau… now. So if you wanna get all the small and mostly unimportant updates and stuff I'm flushing into the net, feel free to add me. ;)

>Also looking forward getting my hands on a "The Settlers 7" comp end of the month. Hopefully I can post some of my character designs then.

>Weekly Lost-evening with some friends coming right up. :la: Last week we made us some Dharma Beer. ...okay, it was Staropramen in disguise. :D
Btw. we (:iconmissmatzenbatzen: and I) are a bit late ;) but we finally started watching Supernatural - better than I expected. Really fun to watch. :)

>Dear Marvel readers - If I would like to start reading Avengers (starting...maybe 2 years ago?) what should I read? All the crossover stuff and different titles really confuse my old and slow brain. Any tips which series is readable and makes sense without buying all the other series?

Thats it? It is, so it seems.
Cheers!

Spider-Man n stuff

Journal Entry: Sun Dec 20, 2009, 9:00 AM
Wow, almost then months since my last journal!? How did that happen?
So here comes a little update post.

Was busy this year still doing character-designs for the BlueByte/Ubisoft game "Die Siedler 7(The Settlers 7) As soon as I can show some designs I'll do it here. :)

While finishing up the job in November I was also doing a Ghost Rider cover and 9 pages for "Breaking into Comics the Marvel Way". marvel.com/news/comicstories.1… I'll post page one in my gallery. Bendis' script was a blast to work on.

Yesterday I finished my first issue(#60) of Marvel Adventures Spider-Man. I'll start working on issue 61 in a few days.

The last months were kind of exhausting, though. Too much work, barely free days and still problems(pains) with my arms(especially writing is still a bad idea) and I got my share of the lovely swine flu. Ah, and I'm 32 years old now. ;)
Damn, my arms start freaking out again, have to keep this short.

I'm really sorry for all your great comments or even notes I didn't managed to answer, I hope there will be a time when I can keep up with it better. :)
So whats left to say - Have a nice holiday y'all! :):santajark:

what I'm up to recently

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 3, 2009, 6:29 AM
Eh, need a new journal up on my front page.

So what to tell? 'Kay, whats new:

>>> still doing  character designs for Bluebyte/Ubisoft most of my time

>>> my entry for the Darkstalkers Tribute book got accepted! Yay me! :)
little preview:
Image Description

>>> came in second for Project Rooftop's Batman v.2.0 contest. Was a bit surprised myself, since my entry was a bit too down to earth even for my taste. I heard of the contest on the last day, and I just entered because I was curious what I would come up with. So I just entered without thinking about the possibility to win. :) I guess a day more to think about and I would have come up with a more superhero-like approach. Maybe wouldn't have been better but I would've liked it better I guess. ;)

>>> started working on (a pitch for)a comic again. Creator owned this time! Yay!
Just to keep me focused in my free time. ;) I'm really in the beginning of designing/thinking about it and I don't have too much time to work on it so don't expect anything soon. ;)

>>> enjoying the sunny weather right now! :w00t:

>>> I like watching Prison Break

>>> bought an EDGE subscription. Love it!

thats it, nothing more to tell, I guess!

Commissions are open

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 16, 2009, 4:48 AM
Okay, thats new. I'm finally open for commissions. Let's see how that works.
I know my prices will be too high for a lot of you, and don't let it fool you, I'm a nice guy otherwise ;) but doing this stuff takes time and I don't want to spend my spare free time with working for less money. ;)
Since I'm not sure how much time I'll have for it, only 3 slots are open at this time. :)

So here's the deal:

300$ for a single painted fullbody character.(little to no background)
If you're interested in something different, as character waist up or just greyscales or just lineart please send me a note - I'll make a prize depending on the amount of work. In most of the case it might be cheaper, though.

note 1: these are my rates for personal comissions only. For commercial work please ask for my rates via e-mail or note.
note 2: the work you'll receive includes personal use only, I reserve all rights on the illustration.

So if you're interested send me a note.
I accept payment via paypal.

Since I haven't done this before I lack distinct examples so these have to do the job though they don't exactly fit:
Head in teh clouds by ChristianNauck Wunschkrieg Sabatea by ChristianNauck Deadpool vs. Cap by ChristianNauck
Please also note that I don't have a "house style" so the style of the final illustrations can differ.

MySpace

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 21, 2008, 1:58 PM
At first: Thank you all, who anwsered to my inking question in my last journal! I really appreciate your help!! :)
---

Hah - after I was the only one who posted his Fable II character here I felt more nerdy than I could stand so I had to wipe my journal as fast as possible from my front page.
:ahoy: nah, not really.... :D

Just have a new topic for this one.
Yeah...I got weak....
...I have a MySpace page now as well. Yay me! :faint: :picknose:

To be honest, I have the account for a while now, but never used it till we openend a new account for our exhibition, so I felt like giving my page a little sympathy as well.
I still don't know what it's all about. I always hated all these pages even from people I like. Often awful/not designed, messy arranged all over three screens, yelling at me with music I have to search before I can shut it off.....damnit, how many of you are pissed off now? :ninjaeat: ;)
But over the last years I learned for sure that networking can be really important for my work(and sometimes can be fun as well), so I'll give it a try.
...besides, with the new design tool MySpace looks much better and is much better to handle. Is kind of fun to fool around with it. :)
Hopefully most of the users will use the new tool soon, too. ;)

soooooo, whats the point you ask... :ignore: ..
if you have a MySpace account, too, please feel free to add me!
<div class="content", align="center">

Yeah! Thats it, thats all I wanted to say. I really talk too much. Or I bore too much...?!

Inking and games

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 18, 2008, 5:45 AM
yep, as the title says this journal will be about inking and games.
I'll start with the business:

little question about Inks:

I'm currently a bit unhappy with my linearts/pencils. Lately I'm mostly painting, which has a much more fluid workflow and offers much more freedom in the process. It's getting harder everytime to go back to drawing clean lineart.(whats really confusing because the big time of my life I used to draw only lineart).

So I'm currently looking for a way to find a way to become faster with my lineart and to achieve a more natural look. So I'll want to try my hands on non-digital-inking again. Not the overall clean type, but the more forgiving messy type. ;)

So, :ignore: the point is: I'll need (a lot of ;))whiteout for this and so far I know the best one seems to be the Pro White by Daler-Rowney. Problem is there is no german (online)shop does seems to have it.
So does any of you know a good online art supply store who ships worldwide?
And for all you inkers out there: What tools do you use? I'm gonna need brushes, quills/pens and good ink. I think I'll pick up different types, just what I can find at the stores, but tips are very welcome. :)
So, I've no idea if this ink-idea is gonna work, but at least I wanna try. :)

'kay now games, particularly Fable II!
These months are heaven/hell for gamers. A lot of great games coming out. What are you looking for or playing already? My next game on the list is Prince of Persia. Really looking forward to it. Fallout 3 seems to be great too, but is a bit too time consuming at the time beeing...and baybe a bit too depressing, colorless for my taste. ;)

I was really stuffed with work the last months, hence the not commenting/uploading, but at least I managed to play Fable II.
Fable Lost Chaptes took me three starts(over the last 2years) to get it, but after that I reaaallly enjoyed it. Yes, it has it flaws, but I really dig the overall magical, adventerous feeling.
So I got Fable II at day one ;) and played it since then. And since there are a lot of choices and a lot of possibilities for cool looking characters I ask four your decision/characters.

And yeah, It's getting nerdy fast here. Show your characters!! :)
Here are some pics of my character. Sorry for the extrem blurryness:

Tutorial and stuff

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 5, 2008, 5:30 AM
Don't know how many of my watchers are in to vector illustration, but I wanted to give you a heads up:

The lovely and talented :iconmissmatzenbatzen: aka my girlfriend ;) has just uploaded a tutorial about how she's working with gradients and layer masks in Adobe Illustrator. So head over and check it: missmatzenbatzen.deviantart.co…

I'll add a question - I often get asked about tutorials, but my workflow is really kind of weird different every time. A lot of trial and error. So would it be interesting for you anyway? And what would like to see? Any particular questions, parts of my work you wanna see explained more?
Don't know if I'll find the time soon, though...;)

What the...

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 4, 2008, 5:47 AM
...hell happened?!

Lets start with: Does anyone understand how the popular section(no matter which one) works currently? It's a big mess, right?! My Hulk piece for instance has over 1800 favs and is currently residing on page 3, 4, 5?
...
naah, I'm not really complaining :D , because on the other, lets face it, important hand: HOLYMOLYFRIGGINSUMTHIN!!! 1800favs???! :eyepopping:

It seems this pic appeared on the front page for some hours, although I didn't saw it there.(neither I know how it got there - as I said, a mess ;) ) I just got overrun by a maaaaaaasssssive amount of comments and favs! Thats insane! ...in a very good way. Besides some of my latest devs so far never one of my pictures could crack the 100favs a day! Still have no idea how this happened.

I don't think it's possible to answer as much comments as usual, so I'll take the shortcut -  thanks a biig bunch, all of you!!! :typerhappy::beer: I'm really glad you all like it so much. As I often said - most of my time during last years I've drawn comics and often less time for painting/colring. Just currently I have more time for practicing, and it's great to see that it finally seems to kick in a bit more.
Thanks again for all the feedback. Motivating to teh max! :D

And I added some wh-what?, stamps to my shoutboard. Thanks to all you assiduously stampmaker out there! :D Still need some more good stamps for stuff I like ...but I'm too lazy myself to make them. ;)

ah, and btw. it's hot in Berlin! I'm melting! Me and :iconmissmatzenbatzen: live in the fourth flour, last floor below the roof and it's always the hottest part of the building.
But at least our look outta the window is nice - all the trees in front are green now. One of the greatest things about Berlin is that its biig and green! :)

So, most personal stuff of me you've seen here so far, bloep, ;) view out of our window:

Yippie-ki-yay Schweinebacke,

good news, at least for me :D :

It's finally official.
I'm one of the winners of the Chesterquest contest!:bow::beer:

--> forum.newsarama.com/showthread…

So far it will be only a few pages in the "House of ideas" anthology, but I'm really eager to know more about it. No idea so far what the story will be about nor who the creative team will be.

Never was really sure if I really wanted to jump on the american market - the deadline -stress is high, the money is low(if you live in germany - the dollar is so friggen low!!)compared to other drawing-jobs ...

But with the chesterquest-shortcut I thought I could give it a try - and I'm really happy that I did!! :) Just wanna start drawing! Comics are just too awesome to leave behind!
