More worker-types: farmer, carrier, baker and a miller. The miller was actually the first concept I did for The Settlers 7, hence the different style!
"Die Siedler 7" [link] / The Settlers 7" [link] by Bluebyte/Ubisoft finally hit the stands some days ago.
I did most of the character designs for the game and I'm planning on showing the big bunch of 'em here. I'll start with some of the worker-types. These are some of the earlier concepts I did - now almost two years old.
A constructor, a ranger, a miner and charburner.
The kind of style and the bodytypes were already defined when I came to the project, so it's all a bit of a mix of my style and a style the guys at Bluebyte had in mind.
The biggest challenge was to keep the design simple and readable. It's so much easier to to a detailed, fancy look instead of a reduced design that works in a game like "The Settlers" - even zoomed out the characters have to be recognizable. I got a lot of helpful input from my A.D. Michael Filipowski about this.
Considering stuff like this, or the limitations of the 3D-realization and animations was completely new to me. But I grew into it after while I think.
Lovely design and - what's most important - the figures are distinguishable by their shapes alone! I especially like the baker, even his beard looks like a little bread to me
I guess You are one of the people to thank for that eh~
